Choosing the book style and format (part 1)

Researching the book publishers today, I found number of websites that are very informative and provide samples of books, produced by other photographers.

So, it’s worth looking through these websites in order to have some ideas what other photographers produced.

One year of books blog is run by Laurence Vecten and his wife, who living in Paris. They collect photographic books and their blog reveal their book collection.

Looking at other photographer’s work

Recently I came across with few photographers’ websites showcasing their work.
All photographers are young and emerging, which made it interesting for me to look through their work, as I’m through my photography and projects trying to establish myself as an artist too.

Project Images

Ever since I started working on the Thames project I made few changes regarding the nature of the pictures, the idea, as well as approach to the project as a body of work.
First of all, upon completion of my research, I’ve decided (thanks to Andy Clift) to release 3-4 photo Zines (during few years run of the project) showcasing best of my work.
The publication, I’m going to produce will contain the images (around 13-17) from the first part of the “journey along the river”.
In this post, to have an idea of the project, I’m going to show some of images, taken during last 2 month.

Publishers Research

Recently I have started researching the publishers, as well as photographic paper and other equipment for self publishing.
In order to get more information and knowledge I have visited Zines Fair held at Barbican Art Centre. It was a great event for those who are interested in getting their work published, but I was disappointed by the size of the venue (very small for what I’ve paid). Anyway, the experience I got from that is great.
As I said before, I’m a self publish oriented (for this particular project) and looking at different work published by various photographers (self published books, zines, portfolios, etc), but at the same time keep on researching book publishers, which I’m going to put down in the list (links to their websites).

These are just the publishers I’ve researched, but there are hundreds of them on the market. So in my next posts I will look at these book printing companies in details.
